In North America, the guidelines and best practice for PV system commissioning are not entirely clear. An international standard was published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 2009; the IEC 62446 standard defines the minimum requirements for documenting, commissioning and inspecting grid connected PV systems.

Seaward Solar collaborated with Solar Pro magazine to produce an article which featured the Feb/Mar 2012 issue, the article provides an overview of the IEC 62446 standard and how it can be used to help standardize best practice for documenting and verifying solar PV installations within North America or any other country where there are no clear or mandatory guidelines available.
